THAILAND

2:23 PM

Country: Thailand (Kingdom of Thailand)

Location: Southeast Asia

Days Spent: 12 days

Point of Origin: Singapore

Travel time: 2 hours via Tigerair

We spent 10 days in Thailand and I love how we were able to explore it's beautiful country and it's rich culture. We started the tour in Bangkok to Phuket to Koh Phi Phi to Ao Nang.

We flew from Singapore to Bangkok which is the capital city. Before this trip, I searched a lot of articles and got confused for so many times. I would like to spare you from the confusions
that's why I would like to give you a summary of which is which before giving you the details
of our 10 days action-packed tour in the mesmerizing country of Thailand.

Money Changer

This is the most important thing you have to know. I had my fair share of tears in finding a good money changer.
I changed some of my hard earned money in the airport (Siam Commercial bank) but I ran out of cash so I had to change some in Pratunam mall. Sadly, both gave me a very poor rate.

So I really searched for other booths and came across "Super rich" in one of the BTS station. I swear the rates are that good!I even compared it with it's neighbor kiosk and was surprised with the difference. So If you are in Bangkok, make sure to find Super rich.

LOCAL SIM

Yes it is worth it! Thailand's internet connection is fast and you will find a lot of public free wifi's.Go buy a local Thai sim and reload on 7-eleven outlets, I think it's around 70 BAHT for one week data. BEWARE OF THE SCAM! We bought a sim inside Pratunam mall for 200 BAHT then I learned from my friend who resides in Bangkok that you can buy a sim for as low as 50 BAHT. I could have save 150 BAHT If i knew that.

THE FOOD

Who wouldn't love an authentic Pad Thai? I do! Thai food is mostly fresh vegetables but for a non vegetarian like me, you still have a lot of choices! Their food is very affordable, you can have a decent meal for around 60 BAHT or eat street foods for around 5-10 BAHT. It's that cheap but ofcourse that still depends on the restaurant of your choice.

One thing that I cannot accept is that when we were in Phuket, MCDONALD'S is really expensive. Cheapest regular burger meal is at 200 BAHT. So when in Thailand, go for their local food. I also had a chance to check their groceries and I was surprised that their goods are very affordable. So I hoarded shampoos, soaps and a lot of chips!

Bangkok

Temple Tour

We stayed in Bangkok for 2 days just because I really wanted to spend more time on the beach.

There's 2 airports in Bangkok, the Suvarnabhumi and Don Mueang Airport.

Suvarnabhumi is actually located outside Bangkok so if you are staying in the city, Don Mueang is the right airport to choose.

Bangkok is the capital city of Thailand. This is a shopping haven because of it's low shopping deals.

Mall hopping

The currency is a bit higher compared to where I live, Philippines.

That's why for me it is still cheaper in our country but If you don't think about the conversion and just the amount of Baht you have, it is still cheap and made of good quality.

There are a lot of restaurants, museums, temples and huge malls all over bangkok. If you'd like to jump from one place to another, there's metered taxi's all over or train. We often used the taxi because of the crazy hot weather which I really cannot take.

Transportation in Bangkok

Train Card
Transportation in Bangkok is  pretty convenient but it gets really crowded during peak hours. They have three trains|:

  • Bangkok Metro or MRT
  • Bangkok Skytrain or BTS
  • Suvarnabhumi Airport Link or ARL

Make sure to know which station you are going to because it's a challenge to ask directions because not all local Thai's are good in English.

Who would love Bangkok?

People who loves to know about Thai's culture, shopping, temples and city life.

PHUKET

We stayed in Phuket for 2 days, it an hour flight from Bangkok and you need to travel via land for around 30 minutes to an hour to reach the beach areas.

There are 3 most visited beaches in Phuket

  • Kata Beach
  • Karon Beach
  • Patong Beach
Each location is very accessible and close to each other but If you love a true beach "feels" then I suggest you stay in Kata or Karon Beach as it is much secluded and you will really love the golden sand.

Transportation in Phuket

You can rent a motor bike for around 250 BAHT for 1 day. This is advisable if you wanna go to the 3 main areas because tuk tuk is a lot expensive than renting your own motor bike.

Exploring Phuket by renting a motorbike

Who would love Phuket?

People who loves  stunning tropical sunsets, surfing and huge waves.

PHI PHI ISLANDS

We stayed in Phi Phi Islands for a week. This is my most favorite place in Thailand. Do not ever miss this place! This island is part of Krabi Province and it's around 2 hours travel time via Ferry from Phuket. Just ask your hotel to book a ticket for you going to Koh Phi Phi.

Ferry going to Koh Phi Phi from Phuket
We paid 600 BAHT each for a one way ticket. I swear this place is worth the wait! Once you're there, Never miss booking a half day tour to it's famous island hopping destination like Maya Bay where the movie "The Beach" was filmed.

Island Hopping

Transportation in Koh Phi Phi

There is NO land transportation on this island. Each part of the island is connected with each other but might require a lot of walking. From the pier, you have to walk or rent a taxi boat going to your hotel so make sure you ask your hotel if they will pick you up from Tonsai pier.

Our hotel picked us up but then we had to walk from the pier though their helper carried our bags using something similar to a push cart. Nevertheless, you will love your stay on this beautiful island.

Who would love Koh Phi Phi?

Fire show

Everyone! It really depends on your personality.  There are five settlements under Koh Phi Phi

  • Ao Maya
  • Ton Sai, the capital and largest settlement
  • Hat Yao
  • Ao Lodalum
  • Laem Pho

  •
Phi Phi Villas in Long Beach

We stayed near Tonsai area and transferred to Long beach which is the ideal place to stay in.
It's relaxed and a lot better than the other areas. Mostly it's beachfront and close to everywhere.

Afternoon delight with this kind of view

    Ao Nang

From Koh Phi Phi we travelled for 2 hours going to Ao nang, Krabi via Ferry.
This was our last destination because it's closer to the airport and this is for those who loves to experience a "province feels".

It's more of mountains, laid back lifestyle and ofcourse beach! but sadly, Ao nang is not comparable to Koh Phi Phi or Phuket. The sand is brown but you will definitely love the picturesque view of the mountain and how laid back the place is.

    Transportation in Ao Nang

Tuk tuk is well-known in Thailand but they have like a mini van where you need to press a switch to stop the driver and it will cost you around 20 BAHT only.
We also rented a motorbike to explore the town but I suggest you search for a hotel near everywhere.  The hotel we stayed is pretty much close to the main road and it is the most beautiful hotel we've stayed in Thailand where you'll see a scenic view of the mountains as you listen to the bird's humming.

    Ao nang Mitti Resort
    WHO Would Love AO NANG?

Those who needs a laid back lifestyle but near commercial areas and wants a bit of fast food meals.

Thailand is one of my favorite South-East Asian country and I can't wait to be back! I still have other places in Thailand that I want to explore like Koh lanta.
However, I think my itinerary was good from the city feels down to a more laid back stay. Overall, it's worth it and I can't wait to share my other stories on each places we went to.

Will blog my detailed tour next time :)
